separate - plain text - help
This is the "separate -
plain text" section. The left
text area must contain only non-scrambled text.
That text cannot have rich text formatting like changes in fonts and
colors. The right text area must contain
only a single scrambled section, typically corresponding to a scrambling of the
plain text in the left box. Scrambled
text is always plain, so the right text area is for plain text only.
If you are working with a
plain text document containing a single scrambled section, and if its original
non-scrambled data was rich text (or if you don't know), then you should not be
in this section - you need to switch to the "separate - rich text"
area.
Plain text areas are limited
to 65535 characters. Rich text areas
don't have that restriction (there is one, but it is very large). If you run out of room, you must work in rich
text areas to resolve the problem.
However, since scrambled text is always plain, even if you work in rich
text, you may create too much plain scrambled data. This can be resolved by working strictly in
the Mixed - Rich area. You can place
plain text in there and still work with it.
And, if you scramble it, it goes back into that single rich text area -
avoiding the 65535 limit. You can always
copy the text from the rich text area to the clipboard as plain text if you
really need it to be plain...
There are three sections of
information above the two plain text areas:
non-scrambled area status: displays the current
number of characters, the cursor position, and the number of selected
(highlighted) characters in the left-side non-scrambled plain text area. The display is generally correct, but at
times can be slightly out-of-synch if a lot of changes have occurred in the
plain text area. At any time you can
press "Refresh" to update the display and to reshow the current
cursor location. Pressing
"Clear" will clear the entire non-scrambled plain text area.
clipboard status: tells whether the system
clipboard contains rich text (text that contains formatting such as fonts and
colors), plain text (text that contains no formatting), or HTML. The clipboard gets filled via "cut"
and "copy" operations.
Currently, the fact that the clipboard contains HTML is informational
only (it is not used in the application).
You may check/refresh the status by pressing "Refresh". You may clear the clipboard by pressing
"Clear".
scrambled area status: displays the current
number of characters, the cursor position, and the number of selected
(highlighted) characters in the right-side scrambled plain text area. The display is generally correct, but at
times can be slightly out-of-synch if a lot of changes have occurred in the
text area. At any time you can press
"Refresh" to update the display and to reshow the current cursor
location. Pressing "Clear"
will clear the entire scrambled plain text area.
The number of characters in
the scrambled area is particularly helpful if you are sending the scrambled
data to a recipient via a product that has a small maximum size for
sending. For instance, Messenger often
restricts a single sent message to no more than 400 characters. If the scrambled text exceeds that, you will
know because of the status display. Then
you can go to the "separate - plain text - settings/tools" panel and
can use the tool that allows you to split the scrambled text area into smaller
chunks.
You can read the supplied help. You can also get more help, read about the
product, or go to the web site for assistance.
You can also choose one of the
other tabs:
"settings/tools" - to enter your personal
preferences for working in the "separate - plain text" area.
"copy" - to manipulate data to and from the
text areas, the system clipboard, and files.
"scram/unscram" - to scramble the entire
non-scrambled plain text area into the scrambled area or to unscramble the
entire scrambled text area into the non-scrambled plain text area.
Note that if you have a
shareware copy of the product, you will not be able to do scrambling of text
(among other things…). You will be able
to unscramble messages sent to you. Only
owners of registered (purchased) versions are allowed to do scrambling.
